Wall Insulation for New Builds, Additions & Older Homes Done Right

When the walls are open (a new build, an addition, a gut remodel or a garage being turned into living space), it's the one chance to insulate them right for the life of the house. Spray foam fills every cavity and seals around wiring, plumbing and framing. For older homes with finished walls, we can dense-pack cellulose through small holes, which fills the cavities tightly and cuts drafts without tearing the walls open.

Why Homeowners Choose Us for Walls & New Builds

πŸ’²

Efficiency Maine Rebates

Insulation and air sealing can qualify for Efficiency Maine rebates. We'll show you what you likely qualify for at the quote.

🌬️

Air Sealing First

Insulation slows heat, but drafts walk right through it. We seal the leaks at the attic floor, rim joists and foundation first, then insulate.

πŸ§ͺ

The Right Material for Each Spot

Closed-cell foam for basements and rim joists, cellulose where it's the better value, open walls sprayed while they're open. Not one product for everything.

Buyer’s Guide

How to Choose a Spray Foam Installer

Most bad spray foam jobs go wrong for the same few reasons. Here’s what to check before you hand anyone a deposit:

1

Ask about air sealing, not just R-value

More insulation on top of leaks doesn't stop drafts. A good installer seals the attic floor, rim joists and foundation before insulating.

2

Get thickness in writing

A quote should list the material and the thickness or depth for each area. A low price with no thickness listed usually means thin insulation.

3

Ask about rebates up front

Efficiency Maine rebates can cover a real share of insulation and air sealing. Ask whether the installer will help you with the paperwork.

4

Ask about ignition and thermal barriers

Foam in basements, attics and living areas may need a protective covering, depending on how the space is used. A pro knows the requirements.

5

Fix water problems first

Insulation isn't a fix for a leaking roof or a flooding basement. A good installer checks for water and tells you if something needs repair first.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does insulation cost?
It depends on the area, the material and the thickness each spot needs, so we don't quote prices over the phone. We come out, measure, and give you a free written quote with every area spelled out and the Efficiency Maine rebate you may qualify for.
Do you help with Efficiency Maine rebates?
Yes. Efficiency Maine offers rebates on insulation and air sealing, with higher rebates for low- and moderate-income households. We'll tell you which tier you likely fall into and what work qualifies. Rebate amounts and eligibility are set by Efficiency Maine and can change. We'll confirm what applies to your home.
Open-cell, closed-cell or cellulose: what's the difference?
Closed-cell foam is dense and rigid, about R-6 to R-7 per inch, resists moisture and acts as a vapor retarder at 1.5 to 2 inches, which makes it the choice for basements, rim joists and garages. Open-cell foam is lighter, about R-3.5 per inch, and air-seals well in walls and under roof decks. Cellulose is blown in loose over an air-sealed attic floor or dense-packed into closed walls, and it's a cost-effective way to add a lot of R-value.
Will insulation stop ice dams?
In most homes it makes a big difference. Ice dams form when heat leaks into the attic and melts the snow on the roof. Air sealing and insulating the attic floor is the real fix.
What is basement encapsulation?
Encapsulation seals a basement or crawl space from the ground: a heavy reinforced vapor barrier over the floor and up the walls with the seams sealed, plus spray foam on the foundation walls and rim joists. It keeps ground moisture and cold air out of the house.
Why insulate the rim joists?
The rim joist, where the house sits on the foundation, is one of the leakiest spots in most homes. Closed-cell foam there stops cold air at the source and makes the floors above warmer.
How long does installation take?
Most attic, basement and rim joist jobs are done in a day. Encapsulation and whole-house jobs can take a little longer.
Do I need to leave the house?
For spray foam, yes: everyone, including pets, should be out while we spray and for about 24 hours afterward while it cures and the space ventilates. Cellulose doesn't require you to leave.
